Holocaust Museum Shooting

Holocaust Museum, Washington (AP), at least two people were shot Wednesday at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, local authorities said.

Traci Hughes, D.C. police spokeswoman, said a person walked into the museum at about 1 p.m. with a rifle and shot a guard. Hughes said the shooter was also shot.

Until right now, victims conditions were not known. Both were being rushed to a hospital for emergency medical attention.

Although U.S. Park Police gave slightly different information, saying that three people had been shot. Alan Etter, Fire department spokesman, told CNN a third person was hurt after being cut by broken glass.

Normally, The museum have a heavy security presence with guards positioned both inside and outside the premises. All visitors are required to pass through metal detectors at the entrance, and bags are usually screened. Where did the assailant came from?

The museum, located just off the National Mall near the Washington Monument, is a very popular tourist attraction that usually draws about 1.7 million visitors each year.

In addition, Roads surrounding the museum have been temporarily closed.
